Grading the Big Box Office Supply Stores

ForestEthics.org has released a new report grading the various large office supply chains based on their paper sourcing and the resulting environmental impact. I’ve always wondered where this paper was really coming from, and the packaging is usually less than helpful. It seems it’s going to take some pressure from customers for these large operators to green their business practices.

Take a look at the Green Grade Paper Industry report and think about changing your supplier of copy paper and other office supplies to one that is more environmentally friendly. But here’s the key thing: let your old supplier know you’re switching and why. Change will come more quickly if they’re not stuck guessing why their customers are going somewhere else. Just an email will probably do it.

By this time next year, maybe the low grades will have improved enough that you feel comfortable going with any of them… but we’ll have to see.
