Climate Change and Business: The ROI for Going Green

May 7th-8th, 2009 | University of California, San Diego

About the Program

“Green” Collar Jobs, “Green” Investing, “Green” Buildings, “Green” Stimulus… The “Green” label seems to be everywhere these days! But what does “green” mean?

To an investor, “green” is a strategy for identifying companies poised to profit from the changing climate. For corporate managers, “green” is a means of adjusting business practices to reduce waste and increase efficiency. Everyone is focused on the bottom line and for successful “green” initiatives there must be significant return on investment.

In response, the Rady School of Management partners with Scripps Institution of Oceanography to present a program teaching business leaders to compute the ROI for going green.

Benefits

  • Learn to “walk the walk” by observing companies who are proactively addressing climate change while focused on their bottom line.
  • Discover possible risks, new technologies, emerging products and corporate practices aimed at increasing the bottom line while helping the environment
  • Study the two sectors where science and business are breaking new ground — biofuels and water.
  • Formulate action plans, including a “green” corporate sustainability plan (with cost/benefit analysis) and a “green” investment strategy (with theories on portfolio construction).

Who Should Attend

  • Executives looking to implement a corporate action plan that will proactively address climate change and help their organization stand out in the sustainability movement.
  • Investors, investment advisors and entrepreneurs seeking an “edge” in emerging climate markets as well as traditional markets that are impacted by climate change.
