Keep the blinds closed to conserve heat in winter and keep it out during the summer.

Consider consolidating office machines by purchasing a machine that performs multiple office functions (fax, copy, scan, etc).

Every fall, have your heating system cleaned and inspected by a qualified contractor. Keep vents clean.

Use an EPA-approved wood burning stove or fireplace insert to save on utilities.

Install storm windows and exterior door. For older windows, use a plastic window kit to cut drafts and seal in heat.

Celebrate the holiday at home (don’t fly) or consider buying carbon credits to offset your trip.

Recycle code #4: LDPE (Low-density polyethylene): dry cleaning bags, produce bags, trash can liners, bread and frozen food bags and squeezable bottles such as mustard and honey.

Dumping 1 gallon of used motor oil in a storm sewer can contaminate one million gallons of water in our rivers and streams. Recycle the oil instead!

If you don’t have recycling pick-up, you can drop off newspapers and junk mail at local schools and churches that have recycling bins.

If you can, take a bus or train to your destination. You’ll be doing the right thing, and more than likely be on time, too.
