Take the Time to Make a Difference

Take one hour of your time to locate your current recycling capabilities and make improvements where needed.

Insulation: A Good Layer

Make sure your ceilings and walls are properly insulated. To learn more about insulating your home visit www.eere.energy.gov and www.ornl.gov.

Heat Rises, And Loses

If the hot and cold water outlet and inlet run vertically up from the water tank, convection causes heat. Anti-convection valves can be installed.

Water Heater Insulating Kits

Water heater insulating kits can be purchased at hardware stores and some electric utilities will install them at no extra charge.

Check for the Star

When purchasing new windows and doors, make sure they have the ENERGY STAR label.

Curtains as Insulators

If your windows are well-insulated, open the curtains on sunny days in the winter months and close them at night to keep the heat in.

Wrap That Water Heater!

Reduce heat loss with older water heaters by wrapping it with additional insulation via a water heater insulating kit.

Check That Water Heater

If your water heater was purchased prior to 1984, it’s likely that the thermostat is set too high. It should be set to 120º.
